Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Resolutions I Have for 2016

toptentuesday

Each week, The Broke and Bookish hosts the Top Ten Tuesday discussion. They provide a bookish prompt and other bloggers are welcome to share their “Top Ten” in the specific topic!

Today is a Tuesday, which means it’s time for a Top Ten! Today’s topic is “Top Ten Resolutions I Have for 2016.” So let’s get this show on the road.

1. Read more

Unfortunately, I didn’t quite anticipate just how much work my first semester of college would be… so I ended up way behind on my TBR at the end of 2015. I even brought books to college – only to be forced to shamefully ship them home at the end of the semester. So in 2016, I want to read more!

2. Read the Throne of Glass series

I read Throne of Glass just about five million years ago – before all the other books came out. I lost track of the series and have just never gotten around to reading the rest. But I just read A Court of Thorns and Roses and fell right back in love with Sarah J. Maas’ writing. Now I’m even more motivated to binge the series!

3. Read the Something Strange & Deadly series

I got Susan Dennard to sign my copy of the first book at a book festival last year, but I still haven’t gotten around to reading it. After reading Truthwitch and becoming a die-hard Sooz fan, I can’t wait to binge the Something Strange & Deadly series in 2016.

4. Start using NetGalley and Edelweiss more

I have accounts on both, but I just never got around to requesting on either website. However, physical copies of books and ARCs aren’t exactly the most convenient in college. eARCs would be so much better – and this goes toward my resolution of reading more and blogging more! So I really want to get into the groove of utilizing NG and EW.

5. Blog more

With my first semester, I also got behind on blogging. But I’m super motivated to change this in 2016. The first step to blogging more is actually my transition to WordPress! I’m hoping that a fresh start will motivate me to revamp my blog and get more invested.

6. Do more features

Like Top Ten Tuesday, Waiting on Wednesday, and more! This goes along with blogging more. There are so many cute features out there that I feel like I’m missing out on. As great as reviews are, I want a well-rounded blog with lots of features. I’d love to get in some author interviews or unique posts, but I don’t want to be too ambitious. So I’ll just settle for any kinds of features. I want my resolutions to be attainable!

7. Do more discussion posts

This is something I didn’t do much when I was blogging on Blogger. However, with my transition to WordPress, I’ve decided to revamp my blog. This includes the addition of “A Nickel for My Thoughts,” which is how I will be doing my discussion posts. It’s a little spin off of “a penny for my thoughts.” You see, my name is Nichol, pronounced like Nicole. But my friends always call me Nickel – so it’s a nickel for my thoughts! Again, I hope that this will add some variety and uniqueness to the blog.

8. Write more

I really want to finish editing my manuscript. I started it this month, but I’ve already gotten sidetracked. In 2016, I want to crack down and do some major revisions. Eventually, I want to query some publishers – I’m going to need a polished manuscript if I ever want that to happen. I also want to move on from my current project (Down the List) and start writing something new. Maybe a new novel, maybe some short stories, maybe just poetry. I just want to keep writing in 2016.

9. Better time management

In order to make the aforementioned resolutions possible, I’m going to need some better time management! This is a more personal goal, but it also has some bookish effects. I want to get a better handle on my homework early on in the semester so that I can make more time for reading. This will definitely be tough, but I’m motivated to make it work.

10. Less Netflix

Again, in order to read more, blog more, write more, etc., I’m unfortunately going to have to cut down on my Netflix time. I got really into Reign and Jane the Virgin this semester. Netflix ended up being where all of my free time went. In 2016, I want to put more of my free time into reading, blogging, and writing!
